Thesis statement:

                Speaking from multiple perspectives in “Little Green” Joni Mitchell uses setting as personifacation , Color based imagery, and color for characterizationto communicate her sadness and lack of regret for putting her daughter up for adoption.

                In the song Joni Mitchell uses time as personifacation. Time is used because she says “Like the color the spring is born.” When she says this she is saying that the spring is actually born which it isnt physically born bacause times of the year can’t really be born. Finally personifacation is only used a few ttimes but has some meaning.

                Color based imagery is used a lot in the song. It is used when she says “Like the nights when the northern lights perform” because it gives a feeling of what the northern lights look like. A key part of the song is when she says “Little Green” Because she uses colors as her daughter.

                Finally in the song she uses color again for characterization. The reader doesn’t know what the childs name is. She uses “Little Green” as the name for her daughter. She also says her daughters eyes are blue which says what her daughters chacteristics are. These are a few ways color is used through characterization.
